Spier's Old School Grounds is the Garnock Valley outstation of Eglinton Country Park and will be staffed by the NAC Ranger Service for the benefit of all the communities of the Garnock Valley until at least March 2013 and possibly beyond that date.

The Garnock Valley Ranger's services are free of charge and include school visits, guided walks, attendance at events, displays, illustrated talks, responding to enquiries, running educational courses, etc. Practical conservation tasks at Spier's or elsewhere can be organised for the benefit of any group at weekends or weekdays, John Muir Award certification being undertaken upon request. The Friends of Spiers (FoS) also work on the first Saturday of every month at the Spier's parklands from 11am to 3pm and the Barrmill Communities Projects Initiatives (BCPI) group meets on the second Saturday of each month at the same times at Barrmill Park, supported by the ranger. Individual volunteers can often also be supported, leading towards enhanced employability, etc.

Anyone can use the amenities at Spier's Old School Grounds at any time. The site has an internal car park that can be used by arrangement with the ranger, whilst pedestrian access is possible 24x7. Several picnic tables and seats are located in the grounds, together with over a kilometre of all weather paths, informal paths, play areas, sports areas, etc. Four information boards are present, carrying maps, historical details, information about events, etc. FoS run a 'Celebratory and Memorial Tree' planting scheme for the benefit of locals, past pupils, etc.

A series of annual events are organised at Spier's each year by the NAC Ranger Service,  FoS, Youth Making Beith Better (YMBB), etc. such as the Spring Walk, Summer Walk, Conservation Awards and Open Day, Bat Walk, Fungal Foray, Halloween Scarenight, Snowman Competition, etc. Tree identification courses for beginners are planned for early 2012. The grounds are ideal for a whole range of activities - Why not hold your event at the Spier's parklands?

Regular patrols of Kilbirnie Loch and the Lynn Glen as well as Barrmill Park and Spier's are a part of the ranger's duties, reporting back any problems to the council, attending immediately to minor faults and responding to enquiries.
