Riddens

by Janet Elliott

I a death certificate for one of my ancestors having died at Riddens, Dalry. Does anyone know where this was?

Also as a hiker I have been intrigued by Bradshaw ruin. Anyone have any information about this. I must have been quite a good house in its day.

Janet, I have births and deaths recorded at Bradshaw in the 1700's - my ancestors was James Archibald (Archbald)..I am decended from James Archibald and his first wife Margaret McTaggat. I am in Australia, my grandfather arrived here in 1864 from Dalry.

Hi Ann - That is interesting.   Do you happen to know what their occupation was?   I expect they were farmers.    There is a reservoir in the valley overlooked by Bradshaw which was not there in the 1700's.    I will look for a snap of the ruin as it is now and put it on to this site.    Probably after the festivie season is over.   Meantine merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Ayrshire.

Hi Janet,

Riddens (or Reddence) was a mining area on the edge of Dalry towards West Kilbride.  I am originally from Dalry and have done quite a lot of my own family tree so if you need any help with  genealogy info on the area I have some useful links I'd be happy to send you.

Kind regards,

Audrey

History doesn't have to be in black & white

Your memory of a local character or a school photo from the last ten years can be just as interesting as wars and Victorians.
