Looking for Archibald's

by Fiona Mason

My name is Fiona Mason nee Archibald, I am from New Zealand.  My husband and I are coming to Dalry in April this year and I am hoping to find family.  My great, great grandmother Margaret Wylie married my great, great grandfather Robert Archibald in 1850 in Leith, Robert died in 1860 and is buried in Dalry Cemetary .  Robert farmed Margaret's family farm in Dalry, the name of the farm was Hambyre. Other names in my family tree are McTaggart; Harvie; Leitch; Easdale; Crawford; Calder; Mowat; Budge; Cormick.  It would be amazing to meet other members of the family, if you have any information or would like to meet up please email me.

There is plenty of McTaggart's in Dalry Fiona, there is also a local construction firm called McTaggart Construction still operating. I wonder if you are related to the late Margaret Archibald who lived in a Dalry Farm. She left her will to a trust to help improve senior citizens within the town.

Hi Billy, thanks for the information.  Looking for family is a bit like trying to put a jigsaw together, just when you think you've got it sorted, there's a bit missing :)  I am very excited about coming to Dalry, I feel like am coming home to where it all began.

McTaggart Construction is based at Templand Road Dalry. Margaret Archibald farm was at the Lynn Glen on the Dalry -  Saltcoats road. Other people who stay locally might be able to help you Fiona. I wish you the very best if you can find your long lost relatives.

Hi Fiona,  I live in Archiblad Drive, which I think was named after Margaret,  There is also the Margaret Archibald Trust, which she left money to the elderly of the Parish of Dalry.

Fona,

Yes, Miss Margaret Archibald was a relative of yours, as she was of mine. Unfortunately she had passed away just before I visivited Dalry but my cousin Robert Archibald met her and corresponded with her over several years. By the way we are in Australia. Ann

Memories, Nostalgia & History

History doesn't have to be in black & white

Your memory of a local character or a school photo from the last ten years can be just as interesting as wars and Victorians.
