cosy little town of Dalry in 1945/1946
Dalry, a cosy little town in Ayrshire. So should I describe that lovely place in the early years of nineteen hundred.
It must have been about July or August 1945, so a very long time ago I met a sweet young lady: Ella Welsh
at the icerink in Ayr. At that time as a Dutch sailor I did follow a wireless operator course at an HMS allocation
in the neighborhood of Ayr.
Some day I met her both with her family living at Lynn Ave. I don’t know if the family still lives in Dalry.
Those days Ella worked at Loudon’s the chemist’s. I know, she had a wonderful voice and was a member of
the church choir. The name of her brother was Andrew. If they are still living, they must be about eighty years of age..
(My age is eighty five) That’s how I remember Dalry with in the neighborhood a little brook some where in the environment of a valley
Of course I remember the Public Park, The Old Characters, the beauty spots in the countryside and of course
The Old Railway Station.
Excuses for my writing language. She also said: “As a Dutch sailor you are speaking English with an American accent”.
Because our south part of the Netherlands, South Limburg was liberated by American soldiers and some of them were
quartered in our house. Our home town was Heerlen, about a twenty kilometers north of Maastricht.
Well, that’s it for now.
Kind regards from Hugh Peter Mietus.
