Dunsmuir ancestry research

by Hilary Parkinson
Hilary Parkinson says:

My husband is trying to trace his mother's side of the family. Although they lived in New Brighton, and later on Anglesey, they appear to come from Dalry. His mother's maiden name was Dunsmuir. We are interested in finding out anything about the region / family! His grandfather, Allan Dunsmuir, was born in 1879 to James Dunsmuir and his wife, Janet (nee Watson). They lived at what appears to be Blair Stables, Dalry. Sadly he was adopted at 1 by his aunt, Jeanie Watson and husband Robert, after his mother's death. They lived in Smith St. according to 1881 census. His father, James Dunsmuir, remarried and had a son, Robert. We have tried to search for the marriage of James and Janet in the parish records but to no avail (via PC). We are interested in hearing about a local mine as James had been an oversman(whatever that meant). His father, Allan Dunsmuir, (married to Catherine, nee Barclays) was a coal miner.

We feel we will have to visit Dalry and try and search the parish records to see if we can search further back or find more info about the family. If anyone can help, please email h.parkinson28@ntlworld.com

Many thanks

Memories, Nostalgia & History

History doesn't have to be in black & white

Your memory of a local character or a school photo from the last ten years can be just as interesting as wars and Victorians.
