I feel so sad to see this as I live in Canada since 1974 but attended both the primary and the high school in Dalry and to me they were unique buildings compared to all the modern schools of today. I have so many good memories of going to school there, hey guys, do you remember Mr Carrick's staff coming over to the school fence at playtime to sell us crisps ect, so sad this is gone, and the wee sweetie shop round the corner where you could get a penny carmel. Miss all of you.

Drove through Dalry yesterday and was shocked to see the Primary had been pulled down.
I left Dalry when I was in Primary 3, when I moved through to Lanarkshire with my parents.
Mrs Sim was my last teacher there and always encouraged my artwork, when I left I remember getting a big A1 drawing pad and pencils. She must have seen somthing, as I kept it up and am now an architect.
I left in 1985, and would have left for the high school in 1989 - a few names I remember are Jimmy Reid, Hector Graham, Hazel Reid, Alison Rose, Colin Lindsay and Caroline Fowler - I wonder if any of them are still in Dalry?

I hope there are no ghosts. They'll get a chase off of Bailey.
I am sure many ex Dalry pupils will, like me, remember the choir under Miss Logan. Primary 7 pupils around 1952/53 shared 'the music'. We won both the Ayrshire and Glasgow area music festival prize for our setion in the same year. For me the love of 'the music' has lasted all of my life. Good to see Rita Halliday's comments. Hello Rita I am in regular touch with your cousin Catherine. Margaret Smyth (McManus)
Well it's been 20 years since I was in Dalry since I am living in America now and when I saw this I was so sad. It is always a sad thing to see a wee part of history taken away. I had such a great time in that school, I remember running out of Mrs Simpson's class in Primary 4 and her chasing me through the playground, it was very funny looking back on it, but it wasn't when it was happening HA HA!!
Well old school, farewell.

I have to add the same sentiment. Now living in the USA I have had fond memories of the old school
1951 - 1961.

What a shame that they destroyed a landmark of Dalry who remembers the sight of the big red building as you came in Dalry past the Douglas brick work.
I am sure we will all miss the old primary school buildings of Dalry Primary School in Sharon Street. The new building is very unique too and will serve the current staff and pupils as well as the community including future generations for the next 100 years or more. We should be just as proud of the new school as we have been of the old school buildings. You don't need me to tell you all that teaching has changed over the years and that education has more of a fun factor that it will make kids want to go to school than be taught in a drab old Victorian building where the roof leaks, the damp and rot set in and cold. The old school despite the happy memories for both ex-staff and pupils was not fit for today's purpose of teaching kids. The new school will be more in tune with being more environmentally green too. I too will miss the old school too but things never stay the same and I sometimes wonder how my old school chums are getting on in life as Friends Reunited is a popular site for reuniting old school pals who are now spread around the globe. It was a pity the old school wasn't made into a community recreation facility but the council must have been desperately needed the money to sell off the land for residential use. I am afraid all we have now is pictures and happy or sad memories of our old primary school, but we all must change with the times.
