The Blair Residents Association and Neighbourhood Watch

The Association was set up in April 2004 to improve the Environment and Housing of our estate, to improve the safety and make the area a better place to live, for Tenants and Residents.

We engaged with the Police, and the Tenant's Participation office of the Council, and set up the Neighbourhood Watch group to tackle Anti-social Behaviour and the other problems that we have.

Our Group have been instrumental in the Blair Road Traffic Calming scheme, the Extension to the Children's Play area on Stoopshill Crescent and the Pensioners have had two Bus Trips arranged.

We have, along with the Housing Department, discussed the Estate Based Projects to tidy up the estate lanes, and the general tidiness of various open areas. This work is ongoing.

Our efforts to have a Community Centre locally to the Estate has not materialised, nor has a Youth Play Area in Cleeves Park, but we keep trying.

What is wrong with the town hall, why not use it as it is already under threat. You won't get a new community centre for The Blair Scheme unless you start using the facilities that are already here in the town. You should be concentrating on the anti-social behaviour that takes place like getting North Ayrshire to provide community wardens. I witnessed a youngster running towards a lamp post holding up a bus information and kick it for absolutley no reason last night on Blair Road. I stayed in Blair Road for over 3 decades before I moved to Townend Street and it has got worse with the anti-social behaviour and there are far too many junkies living there too.
Time to do something about all that.

Members of the Blair Residents Ass are also backing the dream project. The association want to use the Public Hall for office space and meetings, they realise that the Public Hall is the nearest they will ge to a community centre. They run a youth group there on a Sunday night.

Billy Long says

Good to hear that Jacqueline. Dalry Public Hall is a fine building to hold youth clubs and other functions. We must also remember that Dalry also has a community centre already in St Margaret's Avenue, a Scout Hall in Smith Street and various Church Halls that can be leased at reasonable rates. The Sunday night youth club sounds good. No matter that I now stay in Townend Street, I am still a Blair person at heart.

Brian Bowen says

The Blair Residents Ass started the Youth Club held at the Town Hall for the past 3 years, run by Jane Sutherland with the help of the Learning and Development section of N.A.C. Prior to that we used the Walker Hall in Kilbirnie on a Sunday night. Billy, we hold regular public meetings at the Rosearden Hall in Corthill Street, notices will be pinned up on the notice board for anyone in Dalry to attend.

I am looking in to funding this year to do more youth work in Dalry as we all know there is a need. the youth bus will be on Dalry cross from 7pm-9pm every Friday night. this will be to March. I am hoping to get funding to keep this on going.I Have been doing street work, out talking with the young people and they thought that this was a good idea. up date from Jane. Happy New Year and thanks for all support

Brian Bowen says

If all who are interested in the Blair Scheme, want look up a run down of the new Figures on deprivation,
(www.Scotland.gov.uk/socialresearch).
It shows that in 2008 there were 995 persons living on the estate.
On page 2 in the column Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation Vigintile (Twentieths): 2009 the number 4 appears. This according to the researcher I spoke to assures me that it means we are well within the 15% area designated. So I leave it up to you.
