Dalry Rovers

Dalry Rovers have been established for over 7 years.  At present Dalry Rovers is made up of approximately 100 boys and girls and 18 volunteer coaches looking after teams at Under 7s, Under 8s, Under 10s, two Under 11s, Under 11s Girls, Under 13s Girls and Under 17s Boys.  Training takes place in KA Campus Dalry Primary School on various evenings and the teams play their games in Dalry Public Park, Putyan Football Park and the synthetic pitch at KA Campus Dalry.

In May 2008 the Club were awarded the Scottish FA Quality Mark which is a Youth Action Plan initiative that supports grass roots club development.  Clubs receiving this award must meet certain criteria in relation to management, administration, player and coach development, planning and welfare.

All of the teams are SYFA registered and insured with the 7-a-side teams playing in the NASA League, girls playing in the SWFA (Scottish Womens League), and under 17s boys playing in the West YFL.

Dalry Rovers have recently been awarded funds from North Ayrshire Community Development Grant and received a gift from Magnox North to assist with the purchase of new training kit and equipment.  Dalry Rovers coaches and players also had a few fundraising events which included a sponsored cycle from Kilbirnie to Kilbarchan and back and a sponsored walk to the top of Goat Fell on the Island of Arran.  Dalry Rovers would like to thank NAC and Magnox North for the support and encouragement that they have shown.

Dalry Rovers encourage the youth in the town to develop as coaches by sponsoring them through the appropriate SFA courses and are an open club and are always looking for additional volunteers, coaches and administrators.  There is always space and roles to be fulfilled.

Whiterhurst Vs Dalry Rovers 9th May 2010

After three close games this season this game always looked like being a tight encounter Craig Donnan started in goal with Martin Murdoch in an unfamiliar position of striker. After a nervy first ten minutes Dalry began to dominate proceedings, with Houston and Smith marshalling the defence Whitehurst rarely threatened. Quinn and McIssac kept both Whitehurst wide men under close attention and they rarely made any impression on the flanks.  McKenna, Horn, M. Houston and Troy all screwed shots wide before McKenna brought out a fine save from the Whitehurst keeper. The first half ended with Dalry on the attack but a blank score line.

In the second half Dalry continued to impose. An ugly tackle on Marsham should have resulted in a yellow card but the referee chose to warn the Whitehurst player instead. However Dalry were eventually rewarded on 56 mins when a fine, slick inter passing move between Murdoch, Horn and McKenna resulted in McKenna finishing cooly whilst under pressure from 2 players. On 65 minutes  a great darting run by Horn was ended abruptly when the striker was chopped down in the box. There was no doubt about the decision and Murdoch kept his cool to fire Dalry 2 -0 ahead from the spot. A couple of injuries meant Dalry had to reorganise their line up. Bush and Cane both came on determined to make an impact. However it was down to that man McKenna again as he expertly volleyed Troy’s corner with his left foot into the roof of the net for the third and decisive goal on 76 minutes. It surely has to be the goal of the season and rounded of a polished display from the under 17’s with the score line Whitehurst 0 Dalry Rovers 3
