Dalry (Gaelic: Dail-righ - King's Valley) in the Garnock Valley in North Ayrshire is between Prestwick Airport and Glasgow, seven miles north of Saltcoats. The River Garnock passes through the former mining town which was home to Bessie Dunlop, the last woman in Scotland to be accused of witchcraft and burnt at the stake (1576). It was also home to eighteenth century landscape artist George Houston. At one stage the Knights Templar owned land in the area which is also known for its prehistoric structures. Dalry Burns Club has the longest, continuous record of Burns Anniversary Dinners (Burns Suppers) in the world, since 1825. Dalry is home to a community of about 5400 and s1dalry.com has been developed to allow residents share their news, views and opinions, make announcements, publicise events and show off their photos and videos.
